The Effect of Words on Health and Diabetes

Did you know that the words that health care professional use with people with diabetes can affect their responses to health-related situations as well as stress responses? Think of common words such as “compliance” and “poor control.” Negative words can trigger a stress response, which can lead to higher blood glucose levels, inflammation, increased risk of infection and decreased wound healing.
