EnhanceFitness

What is EnhanceFitness?

EnhanceFitness (EF) is a low-cost, evidence-based group exercise and falls prevention program that helps older adults at all levels of fitness become more active, energized, and empowered.

Who should attend an EnhanceFitness program?

EnhanceFitness is designed to benefit older adults who:

  • Want to maintain or improve strength, balance, and flexibility or who have a concern about falls
  • Are interested in a fun, supportive group exercise program
  • Would like to increase energy levels and stay active
  • Want to improve overall health

What are the components of EnhanceFitness?

EnhanceFitness classes are led by a certified instructor and include:

  • A 5-minute warm-up to prepare the body for movement
  • A 20-minute aerobic workout to improve cardiovascular health
  • A 5-minute cool-down to safely lower heart rate
  • A 20-minute strength training session using soft cuff weights (0–20 lbs)
  • A 10-minute stretching workout to enhance flexibility
  • Dynamic and static balance exercises integrated throughout the class
  • A fun and supportive environment with opportunities for social connection
  • Progress tracking through fitness checks at enrollment, after four months, and as needed

A certified instructor, who has completed the EnhanceFitness training, will safely lead the class through an hour of exercises at a pace that’s right for the participants. To ensure that the instructor can attend to all participants, in-person classes are limited to 25 participants, and remote classes to 12 participants.

EnhanceFitness is proven to:

  • Protect against falls and fall injury
  • Provide a social benefit
  • Promote a physically active lifestyle
